Frequenty Asked Questions

Most of BattleGroundRelics’ (BGR) features should be pretty much self-explanatory. I don’t want to bother you with pages of unnecessary and boring description and will limit myself to the most important things you should know about BGR. If you still have questions that weren’t answered by this section please don’t hesitate to me.

CONTENT

General
In order to create content at BGR you have to login with your account name and password. If you don’t have an account yet you can register here. When you are logged in you will see a menu on the right side that is called “Create content”. If you click on that menu you will get to an overview page showing the four different content types. Click on one of the four pictures and you can start creating your content. Following content types are available:

Album
The Album section is dedicated to wartime photos. No matter if you have photos of fuming WWI trenches, of captured secret weapons of the Third Reich or of cheerful soldiers at VE day, all military related photos are welcome.

Relics
The Relics section is dedicated to militaria collectibles. Here you can show your collection to others. If you like to write an article about your flight helmet for example the Relics section is the correct category to choose. If you have, however, a wartime photo of a pilot wearing a flight helmet then you should go with the Album section.

Militopedia
The Militopedia section is dedicated to expert articles about militaria history and collecting. For example you may want to write about how to distinguish original Iron Crosses from fakes or about the variations & versions of US visor hats.

While Album and Relics articles can only be edited by their original authors all registered BGR members are entitled to edit any Militopedia article if they like. All revisions are saved, however, and can be viewed by clicking on the “Revisions” tab at the top of a Militopedia article (you need to be logged in to see the tab). If you think that a revision was not appropriate or incorrect you can still revert to the previous version via the “Revisions” tab.

The idea behind this concept is to build an encyclopedia about militaria history and collecting related topics (hence the name “Militopedia”) by sharing the knowledge of all BGR’s members. In order to prevent the creation of multiple articles about the same topic all members can edit existing articles and won’t have to create their own one if they think that an Militopedia article contains a mistake or is incomplete.

Notification
When you write an article or comment you can specify whether BGR sends you an notification e-mail if a new comment about your article or comment is posted. You can turn off this feature at any time you want. Just go to “my hq” (menu at the top) and then to “my profile” (menu at the right side). Click on the “edit” tab of your profile and scroll down. You will find the section “Comment follow-up notification” where you can set the defaults for the notification e-mails. You can receive notifications for comments posted about your articles and for replies to comments you posted. You can still override the default for the latter when writing a comment. There will be a check box underneath the comment editing form where you can choose your notification preference on a comment-by-comment basis.

PICTURE UPLOAD

Gallery Picture
Every article at BGR must have at least one picture that is shown in the gallery view of each content type (e.g. www.battlegroundrelics.com/album for the Album section). When you create an article you will have to upload at least one picture that will be used for the gallery view. The gallery picture is mandatory and you cannot save an article without it.

Inline Picture
If you like to add more pictures within your article you can do so by clicking on the camera icon at the top of the small editor that appears for the content description field on the page where you create an article. You will then have to choose either an existing (i.e. already uploaded) picture or you can upload a new one from your local drive.

RECOGNITION

Awards
For every content you create and even for voting you will receive so-called “awards”. Depending on the number of awards you earned you will be decorated with a certain badge (see also below). The idea behind this is to give recognition to active contributors of BGR.

If you delete any of your content the awards associated with that content will be deducted from your awards balance.

The following list summarizes the number of awards you can earn for your contribution to BGR:

  • Militopedia article
  • Album article
  • Relics article
  • Forum post
  • Comment
  • Voting
  • Each visit of your articles
  • To see your awards balance you can click on “My HQ” on the primary menu at the very top (you have to be logged in to see this menu) and then on “My Awards” at the navigation menu at the right hand side of the page.

On the start page there is a list of BGR’s top contributors.

    Badges
Depending on the amount of awards you have earned you will be decorated with a certain badge that will be visible wherever your avatar appears at BGR. New members will have the status “Rookie” as long as they don’t have more than 24 awards earned.
